IDC and Energy Insights are firmly committed to protecting the privacy of all members of the National Energy Insights Panel (“Panel”).
The National Energy Insights Panel is an opt-in email program. You will only receive emails from us related to your Panel participation. As part of your membership in the National Energy Insights Panel, you will periodically be sent email communications from us inviting you to participate in surveys, as well as occasional member service emails (such as newsletters, reward fulfillment communications, and program announcements). If you no longer want to receive these email communications, you can UNSUBSCRIBE by clicking the appropriate link at the bottom of the email you receive. We ask also that you cancel your Panel membership by sending an email to info@eipanel.com with “CANCEL” in the subject line.
To qualify for Panel membership, we ask you to provide contact information (your full name, address, email address, etc.) and demographic data (your age, income, education level, etc.), as well as additional information related to your energy use. We use this data to determine whether you qualify for participation in the Panel and to customize the market research surveys you receive through the National Energy Insights Panel program. If you do not qualify for participation in the Panel, we will delete the information you provided to us from our database, and you will not receive any emails from us related to the National Energy Insights Panel.
In the event that the ownership of IDC, its Energy Insights division, or any of its products are sold or transferred, all lists and data that contain personally identifying information and data including, for example, user name, address, telephone number, demographic information, buying information, other data, and e-mail address, will be transferred to the new owner.
Except as otherwise set forth in this Policy, personal demographic, profile, and survey data regarding our members is only shared with our clients and other third parties on an aggregate basis. Aggregate information is data that describes the interest profiles, demographics, and survey responses of Panel members as a group (in the aggregate) without specifically identifying any single member who helps comprise that group. This data also does not contain personally identifying information such as a name or email address but describes group-level information (for example, the average age of Panel members as a group).
As part of your participation in the Panel, we will, from time to time, invite you to participate in online surveys. The information requested in these surveys may include, but is not limited to, your opinions, purchase history, and purchase intent regarding various topics, issues, products, and services. You are not required to provide us with this information if you do not want to. The information collected by these surveys is used in connection with our market research activities. We reserve the right to share this information, along with demographic information, with our clients and other third parties, but only in aggregate form, as described above.
We may supplement the information you provide with statistical or other information that is received from third parties. We use this information to target our communications with members more appropriately and to conduct additional market research.
A cookie is simply a small text file containing information about the user that is placed by a Web site on the user's hard drive. We may place a cookie on your computer when you complete the registration form or complete a survey. We use the cookie to recognize you when you visit the Member Web Site (“Site”) so that we may provide you with customized pages based on information in your profile.
This Site may contain links to other Internet sites that are not operated or controlled by Energy Insights or IDC. We cannot control and are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites. Users should be aware that when they disclose personal identifying information (e.g., user name, address, telephone number, demographic information, buying information, other data, and e-mail address) in discussion forums, chat rooms, or other areas that are publicly accessible by others, that information can be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or parties. Neither IDC nor its parent company or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates are responsible for any information that you provide in the above areas.
We take children's privacy seriously and maintain compliance with the rules defined by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA.) Participation in the Panel is limited to those 18 years or older and we do not seek to collect individually identifiable information about children under 18 years of age.
If you no longer want to receive email communications from the National Energy Insights Panel, you can UNSUBSCRIBE by clicking the appropriate link at the bottom of the email you receive. We ask also that you request that your membership be cancelled and account closed by sending an email to info@eipanel.com with “CANCEL” in the subject line. The use of any other mechanism to request that your membership be cancelled could result in the delay of your membership cancellation.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting an amended version of the statement on the Site. Please refer to this policy regularly. If at any time we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify you via email.
We will not sell, trade, rent, disclose, or make available your identity, email address, phone number, or home address to any outside third party without receiving your authorization to do so, unless we believe in good faith that such action is reasonably necessary: to comply with the law or any legal process; to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities or suspected fraud; to establish, protect, and/or defend our rights and property; or to protect against violations, misuse, or unauthorized use of the National Energy Insights Panel program.
